AGENDA TITLE: Renewal of Landscape Maintenance Contract for Fiscal Year 2000/2001 ($88,880)
MEETING DATE: May 17, 2000
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution approving renewal of
the existing landscape maintenance contract for the 2000/2001 fiscal year
to Odyssey Landscape Company, Inc., of Stockton.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: City Council originally approved the specifications for landscape
maintenance on May 20, 1998. Section 1.5, General Stipulations, of
the approved specifications allows for option to renew by mutual
agreement between City and Contractor. Council first awarded the
contract to Odyssey Landscape Company, Inc., on July 1, 1998. During the 1999/2000 fiscal year,
Council approved a one-year renewal with an increase of 1%2%. Odyssey Landscape Company, Inc. has
maintained fifty-six landscaped areas for the City, providing significantly improved service over the
previous contractor. In the attached letter, Odyssey Landscape Company, Inc. requests to renew the
contract for the 2000/2001 fiscal year, July 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001. Service was increased with
the addition of three sites—Lodi Station, the Mills Avenue bridge, and the Turner Road parkway west of
Evergreen Drive. Additional sites will be added as needed during the course of the contract. There is no
increase in the prices for the individual sites except on Cherokee Lane ($6,120). The level of service for
Cherokee Lane will increase due to the maturing plants and increased debris patrol.
Various departments include funds in their operating budgets for this work.

RE: 2000-2001 Fiscal Year Contract Extension
Dear George:
I would like to address the upcoming fiscal year renewal. Please accept this letter as intent to
proceed with the same monthly prices for each separate area; I.e., medians, walkways and other
facilities as outlined in the recent billing schedule dated January 31, 2000 with the exception of
Cherokee Lane.
I propose to increase the level of service due to maturing plants and ongoing debris patrol. We
would increase the frequency of service and traffic control as outlined below.
1. Weekly weed and garbage patrol.
2. Monthly fruit patrol on the pomegranates.
3. Placement of "Men Working" signs on islands in progress of the above tasks.
4. Proper "Cal Trans" lane closure where multitasks or large trimming takes place.
5. Irrigation inspection on a weekly basis to improve future growth.

NOTE: Moving bubblers for tree growth will be at a "Time and Materials" cost as well as
vandalism.
We propose to increase the monthly billing for Cherokee Lane to $1,191.00 per month.
