AGENDA TITLE: Donation of Surplus Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
MEETING DATE: May 17, 2000
PREPARED BY: Fire Chief
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council donate surplus Self Contained Breathing apparatus
to LUSD Regional Occupational Program Fire Science Class
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Lodi Fire Department has worked to support the education and
training of future firefighter jointly with the Lodi Unified School District. The Fire Science course through
the Regional Occupational Program (ROP) has been in effect since the early 1970's. Fire personnel
from Lodi Fire Department and Woodbridge Fire District have instructed students in classroom and
hands on training since its inception. The Lodi Fire Department currently has 12 members who have
taken the course through Lodi or Tokay High School, as well as five personnel who have instructed the
course. We have a long policy of allowing the class to utilize our equipment and apparatus as well as
donating surplus equipment.
The Self Contained Breathing Apparatus will be disabled for breathing use. The primary use with be for
training purposes to simulate the weight and size during manipulative drill. This donation will continue
our long standing cooperative effort with Lodi Unified School District for trade training of future
firefighter.
FUNDING: The city recently purchased all new breathing apparatus with the latest technology included. We have
surplused all old SCBA's. The surplus SCBA's were designed 30 years ago and have little or no
monetary value.
