HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 19, 2000 E-18;r; wCITY OF LODI COUNCIL• MMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Authorize City Manager to Submit Safe Routes to School Grant Applications to Caltrans MEETING DATE: April 19, 2000 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit Safe Routes to School grant applications to Caltrans. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi, in conjunction with the Lodi Unified School District (LUSD), has developed the first round of grant applications for Caltrans' new Safe Routes to School Program. The Safe Routes to School Program is a new program under the federal Hazard Elimination and Safety Program. Over the last two years, this program has funded the Roadway Illumination and the Kettleman Lane (Highway 12) and Crescent Avenue Traffic Signal/Median projects. City of Lodi and LUSD staffs have come up with six locations in Lodi that could use improvements. Exactly what improvements will be done and cost estimates are under development, but the prioritized list and the proposed improvements are as follows: Priority Location School Type of Improvement 1. Wimbledon Dr. and Scarborough Dr. Beckman Traffic calming 2. Lockeford and Stockton streets Lawrence Replace four-way stop with signal and road improvements 3. Mills Ave. and Elm St. Reese Replace four-way stop with signal 4. Mills Ave. and Tokay St. Vinewood Traffic calming 5. Ham Ln. and Century Blvd. Tokay High Replace four-way stop with signal 6. Traffic Study Lodi High Recommendations for alternate route and improvements at Elm St. and Pacific Ave. FUNDING: Safe Routes to School (SR2S) 90% Transportation and Development Act (TDA) 10% L Richard C. Dixon Flynn - ity Manager SAFERTSTOSCHOOL 04/10/00 RESOLUTION NO. 2000-63 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT APPLICATIONS TO CALTRANS WHEREAS, Caltrans has developed the "Safe Routes to School" Program under the Federal Hazard Elimination and Safety Program; and WHEREAS, the City of Lodi recognizes the need for additional funding from the Safe Routes to School Program to reduce accidental injuries and improve safety for those students walking and bicycling to and from school; and WHEREAS, the City of Lodi in conjunction with the Lodi Unified School District, has developed the first round of grant applications for Caltrans' "Safe Routes to School" Program and have prioritized a list of proposed improvements as follows: Priority Location School Type of Improvement 1. Traffic Study Lodi High Recommendations for alternate route and improvements at Elm Street and Pacific Avenue NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council does hereby authorize the submittal of grant applications for Caltrans' "Safe Routes to School" Program; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager of the City of Lodi is hereby authorized and directed to execute the grant applications on behalf of the City of Lodi.
