RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of proclamation proclaiming the week of May 20 - 26, 2018,
as "National Public Works Week" in Lodi.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Public Works Week is a national event to educate the public on how
important the contribution of Public Works is to their daily lives. This
year's theme is "The Power of Public Works" and recognizes the
vital contribution public works professionals make every day to their communities. Public Works plays a
key role in the planning, building and maintenance of infrastructure in our community that will allow future
generations to enjoy a higher quality of life.
National Public Works Week calls attention to the importance of Public Works in community life and
seeks to recognize the heroes of our society — the professionals who serve the public good every day
with quiet dedication. These often -unsung heroes are the men and women in Public Works who plan,
design, build, and maintain our water, wastewater, drainage and street systems, City buildings; and fleet,
transit, and solid waste services. These folks play a role in the quality of life in our community, and help
move life forward.
A representative of the Public Works Department will be present to accept the proclamation.
