BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Each City of Lodi Police Officer is issued a ballistic helmet as part of his standard equipment assignment. The current ballistic helmets were acquired as pre -owned equipment from the military more than 20 years ago. The Lodi Police Foundation, a California nonprofit corporation, has generously donated $17,172 to the City for use in its purchase of 50 new ballistic helmets for issue to all of the Lodi Police Department's sworn officers. A share of the funding for the helmets came from the Lodi Citizens In Action Heros Behind the Badge 5K Fun Run/Walk fundraiser that was held on September 23, 2017. The fundraiser produced $9,077 for the foundation. Staff requests Council accept the Lodi Police Foundation's cash donation and appropriate funding in the amount of $17,172 to the purchase of 50 ballistic helmets. It is understood that the officer's current issued helmets are previously owned and over 20 -years old. The board realized that it is an undeniable need to update the department's equipment for officer safety. The board approved donating the entire amount of $17,172 to cover the cost of 50 new helmets for all sworn staff of the department. Check number 2129 in the amount of $17,172 was issued to the departmen e : + uary 17, 2018. Tracy Williams President Lodi Police Foundation RESOLUTION NO. 2018-37 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A CASH DONATION FROM THE LODI POLICE FOUNDATION TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF BALLISTIC HELMETS AND FURTHER APPROPRIATING FUNDS WHEREAS, each City of Lodi Police Officer is issued a ballistic helmet as part of the standard equipment assignment; and WHEREAS, the current ballistic helmets were acquired as pre -owned equipment from the military over 20 years ago; and WHEREAS, the Lodi Police Foundation, a California non-profit corporation, has generously donated $17,172 to the City for use in its purchase of 50 new ballistic helmets for issue to all of the Lodi Police Department's sworn officers; and WHEREAS, $9,077 of funding was raised by Lodi Citizens In Action's Heroes Behind the Badge 5K Fun Run/Walk fundraiser that was held on September 23, 2017; and WHEREAS, staff recommends authorizing the City Manager to accept a cash donation from the Lodi Police Foundation in the amount of $17,172 to be used towards the purchase of ballistic helmets and appropriating the funds in account 140.23200. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council to authorize the City Manager to accept a cash donation in the amount of $17,172 from the Lodi Police Foundation to be used towards the purchase of ballistic helmets; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the funds be appropriated in account 140.23200.
