BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Stephen Qualls, League of California Cities Regional Public Affairs Program Manager, will provide a legislative update to the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT: Not applicable. Possible legislation in 2017/2018 ACA 1 1/1/2024 Freezes C&T funds until program is reviewed o Requires legislature to continue program by 2/3 vote Constitutional amendment on November 2018 ballot 1. Increase Funding for Critical Transportation and Water Infrastructure 2. Develop Realistic Responses to the Homeless Crisis 3. Improve the Affordability of Workforce Housing and Secure Additional Funds for Affordable Housing 4. Address Public Safety Impacts of Reduced Sentencing Laws, Protect Local Priorities in the Implementation of AUMA, and Preserve CityRights to Deliver Emergency Medical Services Have a conversation with your legislator about the 2017 Session Include their voting record on local control and economic development If your legislator has a good record on local control, thank them. They deserve it. If their record is weak, ask them why Often try to find ways of helping while avoiding bucking leadership or a powerful bill sponsor For elected city officials that provide legislative endorsements consider whether or not the legislator merits your support. 2018 Grassroots Efforts &What You Can Do...Your Division 1.
