AGENDA TITLE: Authorization To Disband The Year 2000 Steering Committee
MEETING DATE: February 16, 2000
PREPARED BY: City Clerk
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize, by motion action, the disbanding of the
Year 2000 Steering Committee.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On February 8, 2000, the Year 2000 Steering Committee unanimously voted
to recommend to the City Council the disbanding of its committee.
The Year 2000 Steering Committee's task was to provide a year of fun -filled, educational events and activities leading
up to the new millennium for the youth and families of this community. In addition, the committee planned for and
carried out the end of the year event in downtown Lodi, which was a huge success.
It is, therefore, recommended that the City Council concur with the committee's recommendation and authorize the
disbanding of the Year 2000 Steering Committee.

Year 2000 Steering Committee
February 8,2000
A dinner meeting of the committee was held at the Back Bay Restaurant at
6:00 p.m. In attendance were members: Dorean Rice, Rob Lechner, Elvera
Melby, Myrna Wetzel, Cynthia Haynes, Teri Whitmire, Evie Olson,
Joanne Mounce, Theo Vandenberg, Keith and Marsha Land, City Liaison
Alice Reimche, and Vice Mayor Alan Nakanishi.
Vice Mayor Alan Nakanishi thanked the committee for all of their hard
work and expressed his belief that it was committees like the Year 2000
that made Lodi such a great place to live. After discussing the year of
events, a gift of appreciation was given to Dorean Rice for all of her
efforts in the New Year's Eve celebration in downtown Lodi. Chairman
Lechner thanked all of the committee members for their help, and City
Councilman Land expressed how proud he was of the committee's efforts.
There seems to be interest in making the New Year's Eve event an annual
event. Committee member Dorean Rice informed members that if the
Rotary Club of which she is a member does not wish to take on the New
Year Eve's event, she and Steve Whyte of Whytehouse productiions
would like to do so in 2000.
A motion by Elvera Melby that the committee disband was seconded by
Myrna Wetzel and passed. The members were asked by City Liaison Alice
Reimche to attend the next City Council meeting on February 16, 2000 to
be recognized.
The meeting was adjourned.
