HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 16, 2000 E-13CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Authorization To Disband The Year 2000 Steering Committee MEETING DATE: February 16, 2000 PREPARED BY: City Clerk RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize, by motion action, the disbanding of the Year 2000 Steering Committee. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On February 8, 2000, the Year 2000 Steering Committee unanimously voted to recommend to the City Council the disbanding of its committee. The Year 2000 Steering Committee's task was to provide a year of fun -filled, educational events and activities leading up to the new millennium for the youth and families of this community. In addition, the committee planned for and carried out the end of the year event in downtown Lodi, which was a huge success. It is, therefore, recommended that the City Council concur with the committee's recommendation and authorize the disbanding of the Year 2000 Steering Committee. Dion Flynn -- City Manager, City of Lodi Year 2000 Steering Committee February 8,2000 A dinner meeting of the committee was held at the Back Bay Restaurant at 6:00 p.m. In attendance were members: Dorean Rice, Rob Lechner, Elvera Melby, Myrna Wetzel, Cynthia Haynes, Teri Whitmire, Evie Olson, Joanne Mounce, Theo Vandenberg, Keith and Marsha Land, City Liaison Alice Reimche, and Vice Mayor Alan Nakanishi. Vice Mayor Alan Nakanishi thanked the committee for all of their hard work and expressed his belief that it was committees like the Year 2000 that made Lodi such a great place to live. After discussing the year of events, a gift of appreciation was given to Dorean Rice for all of her efforts in the New Year's Eve celebration in downtown Lodi. Chairman Lechner thanked all of the committee members for their help, and City Councilman Land expressed how proud he was of the committee's efforts. There seems to be interest in making the New Year's Eve event an annual event. Committee member Dorean Rice informed members that if the Rotary Club of which she is a member does not wish to take on the New Year Eve's event, she and Steve Whyte of Whytehouse productiions would like to do so in 2000. A motion by Elvera Melby that the committee disband was seconded by Myrna Wetzel and passed. The members were asked by City Liaison Alice Reimche to attend the next City Council meeting on February 16, 2000 to be recognized. The meeting was adjourned. Theo Vandenberg Secretary RESOLUTION NO. 2000-21 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE YEAR 2000 STEERING COMMITTEE TO DISBAND WHEREAS, the Year 2000 Steering Committee's task was to provide a year of fun -filled, educational events and activities leading up to the new millennium for the youth and families of this community; and WHEREAS, the Committee planned for and carried out the end of the year event in downtown Lodi, which was a huge success; and WHEREAS, on February 8, 2000, the Year 2000 Steering Committee voted unanimously to recommend to the City Council the disbanding of the Committee. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Lodi hereby authorizes the disbanding of the Year 2000 Steering Committee.
