AGENDA TITLE: Donation of Vehicle for Police Mounted Unit

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accept the donation of a 1996 Ford F350 flatbed truck
from Claude Brown of Ag Industrial Manufacturing. The truck would be
assigned to the Police Department Mounted Unit and replace a 1977
Chevrolet pickup.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: For the past three years the Mounted Unit has used a 1977
Chevrolet pickup that is a retired Public Works Truck. Claude
Brown, who has been a long time supporter of the Police
Mounted Unit, has offered to donate one of his business trucks
to the unit and per the Fleet Policies and Procedures, the Council must approve all vehicle donations. In
November, Council authorized a $2,000 expenditure of asset seizure funds for the replacement of
accessory equipment on the truck to make it serviceable. Council approval of the vehicle donation should
have been requested at that time, but the issue was overlooked. This item is being returned to Council for
formal acceptance of the donation.
The vehicle has been inspected and is mechanically sound and in good condition. The Chief of Police and
Fleet Manager have given their approval of the donation.
FUNDING: No additional funding is requested.
