RECOMMENDED ACTION Presentation of proclamation proclaiming the week of October 16-
22, 2016, as "Public Power Week" in Lodi.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Lodi Electric Utility (LEU) is celebrating the American Public Power
Association's Public Power Week, October 16-22, along with more
than 2,000 other community -owned, not-for-profit electric utilities
that collectively provide electricity to 48 million Americans. This is an opportunity to remind the
community of the importance of public power to local citizens and other key publics, including state and
national officials. This year's theme is "Public Power: An American Tradition that Works."
LEU's mission is to be the premier local electric provider of choice, dedicated to high standards of service
and competitive cost, while serving the community in a customer -focused manner consistent with sound
business, environmental, and utility practices just as it has since 1910, the year when the utility was
created to serve the citizens and businesses of Lodi.
On October 19, 2016, the LEU will be hosting its annual open house to educate more than 500
elementary school students on electric safety, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and electric utility
work.
Electric Utility Director Elizabeth Kirkley will be present to accept the proclamation from Mayor Mark
Chandler.
