HANSEN, CHIEF OF POLICE RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the Police Department to purchase equipment for the Serial Number Restoration Program BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In July, 1999, Department of Justice, Bureau of Forensic Services, announced, effective July 2000, they would no longer provide laboratory processing of firearms for the purpose of restoring serial numbers that had been altered or ground off.
