Lodi has a significant problem with alcoholand speed-related fatal and injury collisions, including those involving pedestrians, bicyclists, hitand-run drivers, and motorcyclists (illustrated below) FiscalYear DU l-Related Traffic Collisions DUlArrests 11t12 71 358 12t13 65 303 13t14 60 281 To address DUl, the Lodi Police Department deploys existing officers on weekend and holiday evenings for DUI saturation enforcement and DUI checkpoints. This grant will allow for additional saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints. By adopting this resolution, the Lodi Police Department will receive $20,000 in grant funding from the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), administered by the Stockton Police Department, to augmeni a comprehensive traffic safety enforcement program to reduce fatal and injury collisions where the primary collision factor is driving under the influence (DUl). The Lodi Police Department has participated in this grant in previous years, and would like to continue that partnership. With Council approval, the City of Lodi and the City of Stockton will enter into an agreement that provides $20,000 in grant funding to augment enhanced DUI enforcement. FISCAL IMPACT:This grant will allow the city to conduct needed education and enforcement without using General Fund dollars. Lodi is ranked 37th out of 103 California municipalities in the 50,000 to 100,000 population category; and WHEREAS, to address driving under the influence (DUl), the Lodi Police Department deploys existing officers on weekend and holiday evenings for DUI saturation enforcement and DUI checkpoints; and WHEREAS, by adopting this resolution, the Lodi Police Department will receive 920,000 in grant funding from the OTS, administered by the Stockton Police Department, to augmentã comprehensive traffic safety enforcement program to reduce fatal and injury collisions where the primary collision factor is DUI; and WHEREAS, with Council approval, the City of Lodi and the City of Stockton will enter into an agreement that provides $20,000 in grant funding to augment enhanced DUI enforcement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE lT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby authorize the Chief of Police to execute the AVOID the 10 Grant funded by the Office of Traffic Safety, and hereby appropriates funds in the amount of $20,000.
