The written resignation of Er. G. LI. Steele as City Attorney was received and read; Er Steele stating that he desired more time to devote t0 law practice and calling, attention to his previous attempts to sever his connection :•rit:-i the City. On motion of Trust- ee Hale, seconded by ? ustee Hickok, the resignation was accepted to become effective :.day 1st next. The written resignation of Lir ?.3.: cClure as Marshal and Street Superintendent was then received and read and on motion of Trustee Hickok, seconded b:; Trustee Crose, the same was accepted. Trustee Hale, seconded by Trustee Crose, moved the appoint- ment of T. Christosen. as .tarshal and Street Superintendent. Lotion carried unanimously. On motion of Trustee Hale, seconded by Trustee Hickok, bills to the amount of .3,894.17, having been approved by a majority of the finance committee were allowed and ordered ^aid. The Clerk presented the petition of George H. Siebert ask- ing that payment of license fee on his lunch wagon be waived for the quarter ended June 50th. as he had not used the license issued him for the previous quarter; by resolution duly passed end adopted by the following vote, the petition was allowed and the marshal instructed to issue license for the stated quarter without payment of fee:- AYE'S, Trustees, Crose, Hickok, Hale, :aontgomery. i;OSS, .rstees, None. L:ontgom- ery then addressed the meeting, stating that his fears of service had been ones of much work but that the harmony that had always prevailed in the 'Board had done much to :cake his retirement rJnile a relief ;:kxk":a relief-. tinged with regret On motion of Trustee -ala the old 'Board adjourned sine die. The City Clem., having previously taken the prescribed oath, then took the chair and administered the constitutional oath to each of the officers elected at the election of April 10th. He then stated to the Board that their first order of business would be the election of a President. J. ;°l. Shattuck was then elected President of the Board by acclamation and took the chair. I. -Ir Shattuck addressed the members present and visitors in attendance stating that in the years that had passed no taint of dishonesty had fallen upon any member of the Board nor upon the Board as a whole and that he mould do his best to sae that this reputation was preserved as handed to him and that his utmost endeavor would be to give the City a business like administration. :he report of the.City Plumbing Inspector was then read and ordared filed as sere communications from C .Gaylord of the Southern Pacific Company regarding fire prevention and from Lodi Den of Lions advising the Board of theitr interest in Civic matters; the Cleric was ordered to acknowledge the letter letter and convey the thanks of the Board. At the request of Lr. Glenn ,iest, representing F.H. CorcLaay, further proceedings in the matter of the abandonment of the streets and avenues in the 'Tioma:.s S_,-ndicatd" were indefinitely postponed. Eleven building permits aggregating :369,400 were grant- ed, also two removal permits. In the matter of the proposed annexation of the "NORTH JZST "'EDITION" it appearing that proper proceedure had been had in previous actions taken, the Board adopted Resolution No. 245, a resolution calling a special election , establishing precincts and polling places and naming election officers as more fully set forth in the said resolution filed with the Clerk by the following vote:- AY:Y'S: Trustees, Hale, Hickok, Mettler, Shattuck. NOES: Trustees, None. A3S:-I;T: Trustees, Rich. In the :natter of the annexation of the 'SOUTHRii ADDIT- ION" Resolution Iio. 246 in the same tenor as the preeeeding was then adopted by the following vote:- AYSS: Trustees, Hale, ickok, iudettler, Shattuck. NOES: Trustees, Ilona. ABSE-NT: Trustees, Rich. The Clerk rias instructed to mite the Southern ?acific Company and ask that the large tree on the site to be occupied by the Union Oil S-ation be saved if possible. Dr. S. 77. Hopkins, City Health Officer addressed the Board re?arding the general haalth of the City. H. 21. Ellis, City Recorder asked that he be allowed office space and equip- :.lent quip- ::ent separate from, that in the Larshal `s office; on motion of Trustee H_1e, seconded by Trustee Hickok, `.Ir Ellis was gi-,­n the committee room of the Board and authorized to make su�:L (minutes of Arr. 17 cont & cone) changes therein as necessary and install the proper equipment. ?ire Chief Stark asked that the floor, bench and locker authorized in the truck rerair and storage room be installed 4 once,; Hr J. henring informed the Board that the floor would be laid at once. 3x -president of the Board extended congratulations to the newly elected Trustaes and reminded them of his un -dying opposition to the placing of a fire house in iaple Square. Ari adjourned regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi was called to order at 8.15 P.M. on the day and date above written and on call of the roll the following Tr,ustees were present: Trustees, Shattuck, Hale, Hickok, lZettler. Absent: Trustee -Rich. _'his being the late set for the opening of bidsfor the improvement of Sacreme±to Street under Resolution of Intention No. 46 and Tokay Street under Resolution of Intention No. 45 and it appearing that notice thereof had been duly given, the Board proceeded to publicly open and declare the bids received. No proposals were received in the matter of the improve- r:ent of Sac_a:aento Street. The following is a list of bids received for the improve- ment of Tokay Street and the prices bid:- JiJJJRS.... Priedberger aUressed the Board as to their desire for an established piece of proper fire equipment :rest of the track and were assured that as soon as money was in sight,,-th= mstter would be given careful consideration. Se,eral persons appeared in testimony as to the proper width of South Sacramento Street and it appearing that no fifty foot street existed, it -.aas decided to abandon all previous actions taken and proceed anew under new plans and resolutions. Bernardo 2atrin.i applied for a temporary permit to place a whe?led house south of the "Sentinel" building for a temporary shoe shopduring construction of the "CORY" building.
