Lange, Community Center Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council hear a presentation on the progress and growth of Hutchins Street Square. Chairman Dennis G. Bennett will make the presentation on behalf of the Foundation. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Foundation has partnered with the City of Lodi to renovate and construct the Community Center at Hutchins Street Square since 1979. The Foundation is the fund raising arm of the project and has diligently worked with volunteers from Lodi and its surrounding communities to provide funds to build this unique facility. The printed information you received recorded that donation as Secretary 525,000, when in fact it was a $75,000 contribution. Pine Street Dennis Bennett Chairman Dear Mayor Land, John Ledbetter The Hutchins Street Square Foundation is continuing its effort to generate vice -Chairman charitable funding to repay the $10 million loan for the renovation and Julia Gillespie construction of the Performing Arts and Conference Center. In addition to the recognition of these contributions of cash and services, and on behalf of the Hutchins Street Square Foundation, I offer you a check for $250,000. These funds represent a generous contribution on behalf of former Lodian Sheila Wishek and her family. The grand total of contributions made by the Hutchins Street Square Foundation since October, 1997, now stands at $1,074,500. I would ask that these donations be recorded in the City minutes and that a match offered by the City, Resolution No. 98-30, be recorded to reduce the Foundation's debt by $2,149,000 effective today. It is our honor and pleasure to present this check to the City Council — we appreciate the Council's willingness to back the community with the funding mechanism of the certificates of participation and recognize the benefits that the completion of Hutchins Street Square continues to bring to our community. HAYS City Attorney This letter is to express our gratitude for the strong support the Hutchins Street Square Foundation has afforded toward the renovation and construction of the Community Center. On behalf of the City of Lodi, the City Council was pleased to receive a loan repayment installment of $250,000.00 from the Foundation at the August 4, 1999 City Council meeting. As the fundraising body for this project, members of the Foundation have diligently given of their time and talents toward stimulating interest and volunteerism within Lodi and the surrounding communities. That the balance of the project debt has already been greatly reduced is a testimony to the dedication of those who make up and support the Foundation. We appreciate the Foundation's outstanding efforts and thank you on behalf of the citizens of Lodi and the surrounding communities who will benefit from this facility.
