The red alar meet_inS of the Hoard of Trsaztees of the City
of Lodi for the first Yonday in June ,;as called to order by the
President, at 8 o'clock P.1.', on 'the date and, at the place first
abovsritten; Trustees `sale, settler, Roach, Shattuck and
Spooner present, none absent.
The minutes of the adjourned meeting of -::ay 25th -were read
and approved -without correction or addition.
Traffic Officer C. 0. Jackson filed his monthly report to
the '::ars.hal covering, the period from 1=ay lst to 31st shouting
a total of twenty-one arrests with $247.50 collected in fines.
The City Iarshal also f i led his_ : ay retort shoring total
collections of $899.50 and the same was accepted.
In the natter of the resign6,ti.on of City Recorder H.F.
Ellis, effective from and after this date, the committee ap-
pointed l=ay 18th. submitted the following resolution and on

motion of Trustee 1ettler the same was ordered spread in full
k upon the minutes, a copy forirarded to ter Ellis and another
copy furnished the local news papers for publication:-

— EREAS, 1-r. H.F.Eili.s, after a period of ten consecutive
years service as Recorder of this City, -has found that the press
of other business will not allow him to longer retain that office
and has presented his resignation to become effective on this
first da- of June 1925 :

effort during, all these years, receiving but a nominal return for

he burdens imposed u3on him by virtue of his office and has been
always +illl� to serve the ends of justice, :whether the time TMay
have been convenient to hinself or not ;
DE IT RESOLVED, therefore, that this Board of Trustees of
'he City of Lodi, both on behalf of the present membership and
their predecessors in office, do herein e cess their sincere
regrets that 1.=r Ellis can no more occupy + e curule chair and
they do hereb ezpcess and will ever hold,a feeling of the deepest
r- appreciation for -
is works towazd the City and its Citizens;
At times in the past, there may have arisen some thoughts
that decisions have been either too lenient or too severe or
that the manner of punishment might have not served to deter the
crime punished: time alone decides these matters, and we well
can say that the gays ofustice have been better served than at
the time mi�,ht have seeme� to be the case and that passing years
have shown his perspicacity and depth of jud-ernent.
