HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - August 18, 1999 E-08CITY OF I,UDI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Accept Improvements Under Contract for Hazard Elimination and Safety (HES) Grant Intersection Lighting MEETING DATE: August 18, 1999 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accept the improvements under the "Hazard Elimination and Safety (HES) Grant Intersection Lighting" contract and direct the City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion with the County Recorder's office. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The project was awarded to Pacific Excavation, of Elk Grove, on December 16,1998, in the amount of $251,990. The contract has been completed in substantial conformance with the plans and specifications approved by the City Council. Sixty new street lights were installed on the following streets: Mills Avenue (Elm Street to Short Avenue) Crescent Avenue (Rimby Avenue to York Street) Loma Drive (Elm Street to Holly Drive) Lodi Avenue (Beckman Road to Kelly Street) Lake Street (Loma Drive to Pacific Avenue) Daisy Avenue (Roper Avenue to California Street) Grant Avenue (Forrest Avenue to Falls Avenue) Cluff Avenue (Mounce Street to Victor Road) California Street (Hutchins Street to Eureka Avenue) Cross Street (Locust Street to Lake Street) Sacramento Street (DeForce Avenue to Louie Avenue) Pacific Avenue (Reiman Street to Holly Drive) Pacific Avenue (Elm Street to Locust Street) In addition, 26 luminaires on concrete electroliers were replaced with holophane prismatic luminaires on the following streets: Washington Street (Eden Street to Locust Street) Garfield Street (Pine Street to Elm Street) Garfield Street (Flora Street to Hilbom Street) The contract completion date was May 12, 1999, and the actual completion date was May 12, 1999. The final contract price was $260,749. Although the work was substantially completed in May, the acceptance of the project was delayed until the contractor furnished the City with as -built plans showing the work performed. The difference between the contract amount and the final contract price is mainly due to quantity differences between the engineer's estimate and the actual work done by the contractor.
