COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Presentation by the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission
Regarding Honoring Teens program.
MEETING DATE: September 15, 1999

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, in
conjunction with the Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club, and Central Valley Waste Services is
sponsoring a program entitled Honoring Teens. The Lodi Youth Commission
Leadership Committee selects one teen to be awarded Teen of the Month from the
applications submitted to the commission from the general public, various schools, and
church groups. This month's Teen of the Month is Lorena Magana-Ortiz from Plaza
Robles High School and the Honorary Teen of the Month is Tacie Kiser.

September Teen of the Month
Lorena Magana-Ortiz is currently a Senior at Plaza Robles high School. Lorena is
an outstanding student who sets goals for her and works extremely hard to
accomplish them. She is a wonderful role model and great inspiration for all other
students. She has taken on many leadership roles while at Plaza Robles: Science
Camp Counselor, Prom Committee Chairman, Student Advisory Committee and
Peer Helper. She has been a Peer Tutor and after school office aid at Plaza as well
as a tutor at the after school program at Delta Sierra Middle School. She was
selected to attend the weeklong California Chicano/Latino Youth Leadership
Conference in Sacramento.
September Honorary Teen of the Month
Tacie Kiser is home schooled and is in the 8'h grade. Tacie serves on the Lodi
Community Church Youth Council and helps plan and lead activities. She goes to a
neighborhood after school center in Stockton and has led craft time while telling a
related story. She also serves in a Sunday morning children's church as a teacher's
helper and has participated in Vacation Bible School as crew leaders.
