A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
APPROVING THE CLASSIFICATION, JOB
DESCRIPTION AND SALARY RANGE FOR THE
POSITION OF ENGINEERING AIDE
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby
approve the classification and job description for the position of Engineering Aide as
shown on Exhibit A attached hereto; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the salary range for Engineering Aide is
hereby approved and shall be as follows:

Job descriptions are intended to present a broad and general range of duties
which includes, purpose, responsibilities, and scope of work. Job descriptions are
not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.
DEFINITION
To perform a variety of office and sub -professional field work to the engineering
staff; including document scanning and electronic filing, facility operations
surveys, water usage analysis, utility customer support and provides other
support services to the Engineering, Development Services, Streets, Water
Distribution and Wastewater Collection Divisions of Public Works.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED
Receives general supervision from higher level personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Monitors and evaluates water usage information at the customer level to assess
conformance with the water conservation policies of the City;
Identifies water and wastewater services condition and upgrade requirements in
support of permit applications; performs field inspections of minor projects to
ensure work is performed in accordance with encroachment permits;
Performs customer water audits; prepares and updates facility inventories;
implements the sidewalk repair policies of the City;
Assists with implementation of the wastewater billing program, categorizing the
waste strength characteristics of all wastewater;
Assists in monitoring the contract performance of the landscape maintenance
contracts;
Converts paper documents to electronic documents; catalogs documents for
retrieval; creates and maintains logs;
Provides office support to Public Works engineering personnel; provides
customer service to the public; troubleshoot customer complaints;
Performs other duties related to the operation of the department and the city,
including additional duties that enable the department and City to meet the
diverse needs of its community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Public works projects such as street reconstruction, subdivision improvements,
and water and wastewater systems; common public works construction methods
and materials, and inspection; data collection and analyses methods;
Mathematical principles; elementary engineering survey principles and practices;
basic knowledge of nomenclature symbols, methods, practices, techniques, and
instruments used in drafting, mapping, and surveying;
Networked personal computer, related software, including computer aided
drafting (CAD) and peripheral equipment;
Standard office practices and procedures.
Ability to:
To perform a variety of office and sub -professional engineering work including
survey, design and drafting activities; and to provide assistance to professional
level engineering staff;
Analyze data and information using established criteria; ability to compare, count,
differentiate, measure and/or sort, as well as assemble, copy, record and
transcribe data and information; tabulate and categorize data;
Collect and analyze data; solve problems and make mathematical computations;
calculate percentages, fractions, decimals, volumes; interpret basic reports;
Learn and operate basic automated drafting technology used in an engineering
environment; read and interpret construction plans, drawings and diagrams;
Utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as technical studies, plans,
specifications, staff reports, design standards and manuals, ordinances,
assessor books, maps, invoices, computer manuals and non -routine
correspondence;
Follow oral and written directions;
Interact positively and continuously with the community;
Understand and apply laws, rules and regulations;
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those
contacted during the course of work.

Engineering Aide
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the
qualifying knowledge and ability. A typical combination is:
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of high school or GED.
Experience:
1-2 years engineering office or field work. Working knowledge of the operations
of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid Driver's License (Class C) issued from the California
Department of Motor Vehicles.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions- Office and field environment; exposure to a variety
of weather conditions; may be required to travel from site to site.
Physical Conditions- Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining
physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and walking
for prolonged periods of time; using various office equipment and handheld
devices. Select positions may require the ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds;
effectively deal with situations which includes dealing with members of the public.
