Monday, January 7, 1929
regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi
was held beginning at 8:10 O'clock, P. LI. on the date first
above written. Councilmen Hale, Roach, , ,iei'r_e and
Spooner (Mayor) present, non absent nor tardy.
The minutes of the regular meeting of December 17, 1928
were read, aPProved as read, and so endorsed by the Mayor.
Mr. H. N. Madison appeared in regard to the building permit
held up by the Council on November 5th in Which he asked for
permission to repair fire damaged buildings at Nos. 30, 35,
and 37 South Sacramento Street, Fire Chief 3. C. Dougherty,
being present, recommended that Mir. i:adison close up the space
between the brick and sheet steel buildings and replace the
damaged rafters, also install wire glass skylight in the roof
of the shop in the rear of iio. 37 South Sacramento Street.
Mr. Madison promised to masse these changes, but on the sugges-
tion of the City Attorney he was requested to file an amended
application, and on the filing of this application, the Council
granted permission. This was done on motion of Councilman
Shattuck, Hale second.
Mr. R. Weber addressed the 3oard in regard to the adoption
of the standard plumbing ordinance.
Reports from the Pound Master and Chief of ?olice for the
month of December were received, read. and ordered filed.
A communication of the Secretary of Lodi 7olunteer Fire De-
partment notifying the Council of changes in the organization
was read, and: on motion- of Councilman Shattuck, ',;ei'r_r, second,
Sam zllbright was appointed Fire .-:arshal and ;eorge Polenske and
L. Peters were confirmed as deputies.
The application of Otto T. Thomsen for water service on
South School Street was referred to superintendent :ienning. ?he
Council endorsed the submitted by the League of California
cipalities for the Passage of a measure now before the State
Legislature recommending the appropriation of the sum of '-.55,000
for the investigation of sewage and trade :paste disposal. This
was done by the adoption of Resolution _To. 565-A, endorsed by
Councilman :isle and passed b,; unanimous vote of the Council.
Apr annual contract for the purchase of transformers from
the general 'Electric Compan:; of 235 Montgomery Street, San Fran-
cisco, was authorized to be executed on motion of Councilman
Shattuck, Hale second.
Three building permits totaling '3375.00 were allowed, the
application of '+W._ Cutts for permission to erect a veneered
briok building at 114 East Elm Street was not allowed, it beim;
-within the fire limits. On motion of Councilman .iie'he, Roach
second, the Clerk was instructed to Prepare resolution to be
presented at the next meeting of the Council consolidating the
offices of Street Superintendent and -'ire Chief as contemplated
in Ordinance No. 162. The Clem_ was instructed to notify the
Superintendent of Streets that his men should not collect refuse
from private property.

Bills in the amount of :11,329.25 as approved by the 'inance
Committee were allowed and ordered paid.
On motion or Councilman Hale, Shatt..uck second, the City
Council adjourned to meet at 8 o'clock '. of 1e esday, Janu-
ary 9, 1929.
