MEETING DATE: April 21, 1999
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the
City Manager to submit Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ)
grant applications for $3,000,000 for the Lodi Multimodal Park -and -Ride
Structure, $700,000 for three compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, and
other projects staff is currently researching, to the San Joaquin Council of Governments.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi is requesting funds from various sources in order to
fund the park-and-ride structure at Sacramento and Pine streets.
The park-and-ride structure will alleviate downtown parking needs
now, and provide for parking demand when AMTRAK, and possibly
ACE, begin to service Lodi.
The Public Works Department has already secured $929,565 in CMAQ funds and $280,844 in
San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District funds (local match) for the purchase of three CNG
buses. The $700,000 is needed to complete the purchase of three additional buses for the Grapel-ine.
Also, staff is currently researching other projects for CMAQ funding, such as Lower Sacramento Road.
A signal may be called for at Lower Sacramento Road and Tokay Street, and traffic signal coordination
may be part of the project as well as other traffic signal upgrades.
FUNDING: Not applicable.
