HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 21, 1999 E-08AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for One Bucket Truck ($115,000) MEETING DATE: April 21, 1999 PREPARED BY: Electric Utility Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for one Bucket Truck. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Bucket Truck will replace a 1986 Ford F600 unit (09-046) with 63196 miles on the odometer. The replacement of this truck is included in the 1997-1999 Financial Plan and Budget. The guidelines for replacement (8 years) have been met. Truck 09-046 experienced an engine compartment fire in November 1992, resulting in extensive damage to various engine components and the wiring harness. Repairs were made by a Ford Truck facility. However, following repairs this truck has been plagued by numerous break downs, malfunctions, poor running conditions and has been unreliable. This truck is used daily by the troubleshooters for different overhead tasks such as service restoration, line work, streetlight repairs, service installation, data acquisition, etc. The engine and transmission has significant additional wear since it provides the power for the hydraulically operated aerial bucket and tools. Due to the age of the unit (13 years), the daily usage, the overall condition and the Department's dependence on this type of equipment, replacement of the truck is warranted at this time. The bid opening has been set for May 12, 1999.
