AGENDA TITLE: Award of Contract for Wide Area Network (WAN) Cabling $59,836.67
MEETING DATE: April 7, 1999
SUBMITTED BY: Information Systems Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution awarding the
Wide Area Network (WAN) Fiber Optic Cabling Installation Contract
to Pacific Bell, (Stockton, CA), under the competitively bid, State of
California CALNET contract, for the amount of $59,836.67.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On November 4th, 1998, the City Council approved a total
$310,000.00 for the equipment, engineering and installation of a Wide Area Network (WAN) for City
facilities.
This portion of the WAN project would provide new and additional fiber optical cabling between buildings at
two City facility sites: The Civic Center and the Municipal Service Center (MSC). Additionally, it will
provide for the necessary equipment racking at each site being connected to the WAN via T1 leased lines.
One portion of the Civic Center cabling will be the connection of the Library/Emergency Operations Center
building to the Public Safety building for telephone and WAN service. An empty conduit was installed in
early 1998 in preparation of this connection.
Staff recommends hiring Pacific Bell under the terms of a new State of California CALNET contract. This
contract was competitively bid and the City has the option of using this contract. Our engineer's estimate
for this portion of the WAN project was $68,366.00, but Pacific Bell has quoted (PBNI Quote #990314DH)
the City $59,836.67 for the same scope of work.
