AGENDA TITLE: Donation of Surplus Traffic Signal Pre-emptor to Woodbridge
Fire District
MEETING DATE: April 7, 1999
PREPARED BY: Fire Chief
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the donation of one surplus
Opticom traffic signal pre-emptor unit to Woodbridge Fire District.
The estimated value of this unit is $500.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In the past, both the Fire and Police Departments used this
Opticom system. More recently, the departments have adopted a
modern, integrated unit, and have been replacing the older system
as vehicles are replaced or as funding allows. Currently, the Fire
Department has two of these older Opticom units in service, with two more in reserve. One of the
active units is scheduled to be replaced and moved to "reserve" status. It is one of these reserve units
that the department wishes to donate to Woodbridge.
The Woodbridge Fire District provides the City of Lodi with automatic aid responses to certain areas of
the City. Providing them with one of these units would significantly reduce hazards involved in their
responding "Code 3" to automatic aid calls within Lodi's city limits.
Fire Division Chief Verne Person would oversee installation of the unit to assure that it performed to
City standards, and would provide training in the proper use of the system.
FUNDING:
Prepared by Joel Harris, Purchasing Officer
None required. Estimated value of the unit: $500.00
