Dear Community Center Supporter:
The Lodi Community Service Center is a service facility available to the homeless, unemployed and needy
residents of the northern San Joaquin County. We offer a broad range of services to 1,400-1.500 individuals
per month, ranging from employment assistance, job training, food, clothing, education workshops and
community referrals. All services and programs at the center are provided free of charge. The programs we
provide are solely supported by community donations.
Demand for services over the past 12 months has increased by 15%. Unfortunately, more and more
individuals and families are requesting assistance with the most basic of needs. As the holidays approach, we
are asking for your assistance in helping clients during this special time of year.
This year, the Lodi Community Service Center's Holiday Giveaway program is focusing on four important
areas: food, clothing, bedding and toys.
FOOD - Each year the center offers a Christmas Dinner Box, which includes a mixture of canned
goods and staples to enable our families to enjoy a nice holiday dinner. Your monetary donation or
purchase of a turkey can he delivered to the center at 415 South Sacramento Street.
CLOTHING - There is an urgent need for winter coats and jackets for adults and children. Many
children will enter the winter months without proper warm coats or jackets, resulting in increased
exposure to cold and the possibility of illness. Your donation will enable us to provide these essential
items of clothing to them.
BEDDING - The center's goal during this time of year is to "Blanket the City of Lodi." Many of our
families are lacking essential household supplies. Our particular concern during the winter season is the
lack of proper bedding, which many families express as a need.
TOYS - The Community Service Center will offer a Christmas Party for more than 500 children who will
receive gifts and a visit with Santa. We are asking for donations of unwrapped new and used toys in
excellent condition. These toys may he deposited in the designated barrels located throughout the Lodi
area. In addition, you may bring your donations to the center up to December 20.
Please help us meet one of these needs this year. Many local families, seniors and individuals will benefit
directly from your support. You may specify which category you would like your donation to support by
checking one of four boxes on the attached donation form. The generosity of Lodi citizens and businesses over
the years has allowed the center to continue its programs and services. Your donation will help us create the
kind of Christmas that will be memorable for all involved.
We need volunteers to carry out this huge program. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please
contact me at 209-331-7516. Please share this need with your Board, fellow employees, friends and neighbors
as soon as possible. Your donation will make a difference!
Sincerely,
Paula Soto
