The Electric Utility Department (EUD) will be kicking off Public Power Week (PPW) a few days before its
official time of October 6-12. On Tuesday, October 1 NCPA and the EUD will be hosting the dedication
of the STIG at the site at 4:30. We will be inviting representatives from local and state government, other
NCPA cities, the business community, City Department Heads and Electric Utility staff.
At the City Council meeting of October 2, we would like to share with the Mayor and Council the events
planned for PPW and have a proclamation to the EUD. We would also like to display a board depicting
the history of the Department.
Activities planned for PPW include:
Setting up a display at City Hall (the board mentioned above).
• Holding an open house at our facility on Tuesday, October 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will be
contacting the grammar schools in the immediate area to schedule some field trips. The students
will be shown the facility to include a demonstration of Hazard Hamlet, the operations center,
equipment and concluding with a video, "How the Little Light Bulb Gets Its Juice".
• A Department picnic at Lodi Lake will be held in the afternoon.
• We will be talking with the local media about highlighting some of these activities as well as our
staff and history during this week.
We hope to have the Department wearing new grape colored hard hats this week and t -shirts in
celebration of being "Energized by Teamwork". The first edition of the EUD employee newsletter, The
Powedine, is scheduled for debut on October 1.
We are very excited about our Department and its focus on teamwork, reliability and foremost, our
customers. It is hoped that these activities will not only be enjoyable and rewarding to staff, but also send
a clear message to our customers that they are #1 with the Electric Utility Department.
