AGENDA TITLE: Specification and Advertisement for Bids for Two One -Ton Cab and Chassis for Electric Utility
Department
MEETING DATE: October 2, 1996
SUBMITTED BY: Electric Utility Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications for two one -ton cab and chassis and
authorize advertising for bids to be received October 23, 1996.
BACKGROUND: Funds to purchase two one -ton trucks with utility bodies for the Electric Utility
Department (EUD) were approved and budgeted in the 1995-97 Electric Utility budget.
The new units will replace Service Trucks 09-077, a fully depreciated 1975 Chevrolet
one -ton truck with an odometer reading of 90,990 miles; and truck 09-072 a 1980
Ford one -ton truck with an odometer reading of 79,359 miles. The EUD uses these vehicles on a daily basis. In addition
EUD personnel utilize them to respond to system problems and customer calls after hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
Service truck 09-077 was purchased on November 13, 1975 for $4,945.00 and has accumulated repair costs of $5,012.87.
Service truck 09-072 was purchased on January 4, 1980 for $7,961.00 and has accumulated repair costs of $4,805.64.
Proceeding at this time will allow these vehicles to be placed in service prior to the normally expected storm season. During
the 1995-1996 storm season, EUD staff found it necessary to utilize personal vehicles for service restoration purposes and
it is believed that this recommended action will reduce this practice in the future.
Quotes for utility bodies will be received after the purchasing of the two cab and chassis has been awarded by the City
Council. The budgeted amount below includes the cost of both truck and utility bodies.
Authorization is also requested to:
1. Dispose of truck 09-077 by auctioneers or sealed bid auction. It is not expected that this vehicle can
be refurbished for lighter duty use at a reasonable cost.
2. Either dispose of truck 09-072 by auctioneers or sealed bid auction or reassign this vehicle to lighter
duty use or for use during storm restoration purposes when additional vehicles are required.
