AGENDA TITLE: Temporary Fence at Hutchins Street Square
MEETING DATE: August 7, 1996
PREPARED BY: Charlene J. Lange, Community Center Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the concept of erecting a temporary fence on
the corner of Walnut and Rose Streets to act as a buffer for the Camp Hutchins children during the
course of construction of the new Performing Arts and Conferencing Center.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Camp Hutchins program, our day-care facility for children aged
five to 12 years old has been located in the west corner of the Multipurpose Building and is temporarily
moving to portables near the auto shop building on the comer of Rose and Walnut Streets during
construction. The program is at maximum capacity with very limited availability in the coming year.
The fence would act as a buffer between the street and the Liberty High School program that overflows
into the park. Principal Don Smith has reviewed the plan and is in support of the concept.
Further, there would be a temporary restriction during construction on the use of the basketball court until
6:00 p.m. each evening when the children leave the site.
The portables will be removed and the temporary fence brought down after we get the new Camp
Hutchins facility constructed as part of this Performing Arts and Conferencing Center contract which is
slated to be finished in the winter of 1998.
FUNDING: Budget Account: 121.0-350.70
Estimated Cost: $500.00
