COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Concealed Weapon Processing Fee Increase
DATE: August 7, 1996
PREPARED BY: Chief Larry D. Hansen
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize increasing the
processing fee associated with Concealed Weapon
Applications from $81.00 to $88.00 for initial CCW
applications and from $13.00 to $28.00 for renewal
CCW Applications.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Effective January 1, 1996 the Department of
Justice (DOJ) increased the application fee for
initial applications by $7 and the renewal by
$15.00. These fees will be applied to cover
departmental Department of Justice costs for firearms eligibility reviews and processing
activities.
Of these funds, which are sent to the State for processing fees, the City retains $15.00 to
cover associated labor costs for initial applications and $3.00 for renewal applications.
Since January 1, 1996, we have been paying the additional fee imposed by the
Department of Justice and have suffered the loss in revenue.
Captain Charles Mauch will be available to answer questions regarding this issue.
