BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Effective January 1, 1996 the Department of Justice (DOJ) increased the application fee for initial applications by $7 and the renewal by $15.00. Of these funds, which are sent to the State for processing fees, the City retains $15.00 to cover associated labor costs for initial applications and $3.00 for renewal applications. Since January 1, 1996, we have been paying the additional fee imposed by the Department of Justice and have suffered the loss in revenue.
