CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
e•
AGENDA TITLE: Approval of Additional Benefits for Laid Off Employee
MEETING DATE: July 17, 1996
SUBMITTED BY: Human Resources Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve additional benefits for laid off
employee.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On June 5, 1996, the City Council approved the transfer and
absorption of park ranger functions to the Police Department.
These functions will be performed as a part of the regular duties of Police Officers. As a result, effective
July 1, 1996, the position of Sr. Park Ranger was eliminated and the employee in that position, Lloyd Gums,
was laid off.
Mr. Gums has requested to have his accrued sick leave time converted into medical insurance benefits.
According to City Policy, an employee must have 10 years of service with the City of Lodi to be eligible for
this benefit. Due to the circumstances of his separation from employment, I would request that the Council
approve the conversion of Mr. Gums accrued sick leave balance to city paid medical insurance.
FUNDING: Contingency Fund
COST: $5,342.25
