RESOLUTION NO. 2014
RESOLUTION DECLARING THE NEED FOR AND
URGING THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW HOGAN DANT
WHEREAS, recent intense storms along the western water-
shed of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the State of California
have produced the most serious flood conditions along the water
courses draining §aid watershed; and
WHEREAS, the Calaveras River is a river draining said
watershed; and
WHEREAS, the recent intense storms caused the Calaveras
River, and the Mormon Slough and the Diverting Canal, which
carry the bulk of the water of said river, to overflow and in-
flict extensive loss of and damage to public and private property
including widespread damage to and destruction of county high-
ways and city streets and the flooding of certain areas of the
City of Stockton and San Joaquin County; and
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers of the United States
Army has made examination of the proposal of control of flood
waters in the watershed of the Calaveras Diver and made a report
recommending the construction of.a New Hogan Dam, which report
has been favorably recommended by the Bureau of Reclamation
of the Department of the Interior and by the Water Resources
Board of the State of California; and
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States authorized
by Public Law 534, 78th Congress, Second Session, 1944, the
construction of said New Hogan Dam on the Calaveras River for
the purpose of flood control and conservation; and
WHEREAS, by Chapter 1514 of the Statutes of 1945, the
Legislature of the State of California adopted and authorized
the plan of improvement for flood control and other purposes
on the Calaveras River and Littlejohn Creek and tributaries
substantially in accordance with the recommendations of the
Chief of Engineers in House Document 545, 78th Congress, Second
Session; and
WHEREAS, it is readily apparent to the City Council of
the City of Lodi that a dam of the type contemplated by the
said Corps of Engineers to be constructed in the watershed of
the Calaveras River is urgently and immediately required in
order to prevent further loss of public and private property
and to secure the safety of the inhabitants in the area subject
to overflow from the waters of the Calaveras River, Mormon
Slough and the Diverting Canal; and
WHEREAS, the construction of such a dam is an obligation
of the Federal government recognized in said report of the
Chief of Engineers of the United States Army and confirmed
in various acts of Congress; and
WHEREAS, the State of California Water Resources Board did,
on August 31, 1956, recommend an a propriation of the sum of
Five Hundred Thousand and no/100 (500,000.00) Dollars, for new
Hogan Dam
WHEREAS said sum of Five Hundred Thousand and no/100
($500,000.001 Dollars was not included in the President's budget
for the fiscal year 1957-58, and
WHEREAS, Congressman John J. .McFall of the llth Congres-
sional District of California has introduced a bill (HR 574.$)
before the Congress of the United States requesting that an
a propriation in the sum of Five Hundred Thousand and no/100
(500,000.00) Dollars be included in the budget for the fiscal.
year 1957-58; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lodi
respectfully requests favorable action toward granting this
Five Hundred Thousand and no/100 ($500,000.00) Dollars appropria-
tion for the completion of plans and the initial stages of con-
struction of a New Hogan Dam.
CERTIFIED to be a full, true and correct copy
of Resolution No. 2014 as passed and adopted
by the City Council of the City of .Lodi in
regular meeting held April 3, 1957.

in your resolution to Congress, :requesting money for the
new Hogan Dam.
Please forward to gyne a copy of your complete
resolution as soon as practicable because I in turn intend
to duplicate it and include it in our proposed brochure.

priation of the sum of FIVE HUNMM THOUSAND AND N0/100
( $500, 000.00) D011 ARS, for new Hogan Dam
WAS, said sum of FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND AND
N0/100 ($500,000.00) DOLLARS was not included in the President's
budget for the fiscal year 1957-58, and
WHEREAS, Congressman John J. McFall of the 11th
Congressional District of California has introduced a bill
(HR 48) before the Congress of the United States requesting
that an appropriation in the sum of FIVE HUNDFY-D niOUSAND AND
NO/100 ($500,000.00) DOLS be included in the budget for
the fiscal year 1957-58; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED
That this (City Council)
respectfully requests favorable action toward granting this
FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND AND N0/100 ($_-)00,000.00) DOLLARS appropria-
tion for the completion of plans and the initial stages of
construction of a New Hogan Dam.
