COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Contract Award for 1996 Handicap Ramp Retrofit Project - Various Locations ($48,280) MEETING DATE: June 19, 1996 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution awarding the contract for the above project to Popuch Concrete Contracting, of Lodi, in the amount of $48,275, and appropriate funds in accordance with the recommendation shown below. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project will retrofit handicap ramps at eight curb returns and five alley approaches along with other incidental and related work. The eight curb return locations are: the intersection of Pine Street and Lee Street; the northeast and northwest comers of Lodi Avenue and Church Street; and the northeast and northwest corners of Walnut Street and Pleasant Avenue. The alley approaches receiving new ramps are on Church Street. The alley south of Oak Street will be retrofitted with four new ramps and the alley south of Pine Street will be receiving a new ramp on its north comer. Plans and specifications for this project were approved on May 15, 1996. Dixo Flynn - City pager CAWARD.DOC 06/06!96 90 RESOLUTION NO. 96-77 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AWARDING THE BID FOR THE 1996 HANDICAP RAMP RETROFIT PROJECT - VARIOUS LOCATIONS WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with law and the order of this City Council sealed bids were received and publicly opened on June 5, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. for the 1996 Handicap Ramp Retrofit Project - Various Locations, described in the specifications therefore approved by the City Council on May 15, 1996 and WHEREAS, said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and a report thereof filed with the City Manager as follows: Bidder Location BID Engineer's Estimate $44,310 Popuch Concrete Contracting Lodi $48,275 Allied -West Construction Penryn $55,310 WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends award of the bid for the 1996 Handicap Ramp Retrofit Project - Various Locations, be made to the low bidder, Popuch Concrete Contracting of Lodi, CA; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council that the award of the bid for the 1996 Handicap Ramp Retrofit Project - Various Locations , be and the same is hereby awarded to Popuch Concrete Contracting of Lodi, CA, the low bidder, in the amount of $48,275.00; and FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby approves appropriating $50,000.00 from the Community Development Block Grant Fund for this project.
