HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 1903In the City Council City of Lodi Lodi, California RESOLUTION NO. 1903 RESOLUTION DECLARING THTC NSSD FOR AND URGING LES CONSTRUCTION ON SAN JOA- QUIN Rift BELOV MOUTH OF M RCED RIVER WHEREAS, recent intense storms along the western water- shed of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the State of California have produced the most serious flood conditions along the water coarses draining said watershed; and 'WH REAS, the San Joaquin River is the principal river draining said watershed, into which flow are many tributaries; and the recent intense storms caused the San Joaquin River to overflow and inflict loss of and damage to public and private property; and LS, the Congress of the United 9tatts by Public Law 534, 78th Congress, Seoond Session, 1944, authorised levee con- struction on Smn Joaquin River below mouth of Merced River, along the lower portion of Tuelumne and Stanislaus Rivers and through the upper delta and flowage rights for natural valley storage above the mouth of Merced River; and WPM, by Chapter 151+ of the Statutes of 1945, the Legislature of the State of California adopted and authorized the plan of improvement for flood control and other purposes on the Lower San Joaquin River and tributaries substantially in accordance with the recommendations of the Chi f of Engineers in Flood Control Committee Document Numbered 2, 75th Congress, Second Session; and WOW, 1CAS, t sere is now included ixi the President's Budget for the Fiscal year 195647 the sum of ©ns Million Dollars (11,000,000.00) for levee construction on San Joaquin River below the mouth of Merced River; NOW THEREFORE, BE the City of Lodi declares in the Budgpt of Qtid tam for levee construction on of Merced 'River. IT REMYED that the City Council of the need:for'ihd urges the retention of and Million Dolior9 ($1,000,000.00) the San Joaquin River below the mouth 1 BE IT FURTHER RES0LVED that the Governor of the State of California the representatives of the County of San Joaquin in the State L� egislature the 'United States Senators from Cali- fornia, and the Member of Congress from the U th Congressional District are:urged to advocate and support -the retention in the Federal Budget for the fiscal year 1956-57 of said sum of One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00.
