In the City Council City of Lodi Lodi, California RESOLUTION NO. 1902 RESOLUTION DECLARING THE NEED FOR AND URGING THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW HOGAN DAM SOFA$, resent intense storms along the western water- shed of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the State of California have produced the most serious flood conditions along the water coarses draining said watershed; and WEREAS, the Calaveras River is a river draining said watershed; and MUMS, the recant intense storms amused the Calaveras River, and the Mormon Slough and the Diverting Carnal, which carry the baulk of the water of said river, to overflew and in- flict' extensive loss of and dawage.to public and private property including widespread damage to and destruction of county high- ways and city streets and the flooding of certain areas of the Pity of Stockton and San Joaquin County; and WMEMEAS, the Corps of Engineers of the United States Army has made exaMimationn of the proposal of control of flood waters in the waterth'ed of the Calaveras River and made a report recommending the construction of a New Hogan Emm, which report has been favorably reeaow .nded by' the Raman of Reclamation of the Department of the. interior and by the tater Resources Board of the State of California; and WB EAB the Congre.sa of the United States authorized by Public Law 534-, 78th congres, Second Session, 1944, the construction of said New Ragan Dam on the Calaveras River for the purpose of flood oont•rol and conservation; and VaallAg, b+y t 4pter 1514 of the Statutes of 194154 the Legisl.&tdre .of the State of California adapted and aiath©rized the plan of improvement for flood control and other purposes on the Calaveras River and Littlejohn Creek and tributaries stabstantially in accordance with the recommendations of the Chief of Engineers in House Document 545, 78th Congress, Second Session; and it is readily apparent to the City Council of th, 11 O tel that a da,m of thin. typo aysatempl'ateA by' the said Carps of Engineeri to b®,.. omnstructed in the watershed of the Ca]4verau ROOT is ur eatly a n4 e1.diately required in order to prevent f her loess of public and private property and to secure the safety of the inhabitants in the area subject to overflow from the waters of the Calaveras River, Mormon Slough and the Diverting Canal; and - 1 - 1BEREAS, the construction of such a dam is an obligation of the Federal government recognized in said report of the Chief of Engineers of the United States Army and confirmed in various acts of Congress; and WHEREAS, there is now included in the President's Budget for the fiscal year 1956-57 the sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) for plans and specifications for the New Hogan Dam; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lodi requests that the sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50 000.00) presently included in the President's Budget for plans and specifications for the New Hogan Dam be increased to Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000.00) for plans and specifications preparatory to the construction of the New Hogan Dam. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor of the State of California,he representatives of the County of San Joaquin in the State egislature, the United States Senators from California and the Member of Congress from the lith Congres- sional District are urged to advocate and support all measures necessary to the construction of a New Hogan Dam by the Govern- ment of the United States for the purpose of controlling flood waters in the Calaveras River watershed.
