RESOLUTION N0. 1660
REQUESTING THE S`T'ATEā¢. BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
TO RECOMMEND TO TH4 WyERNOtCOF THE STATE
'OF CALIFORNIA THAT SALES AND USE TAX INFOR-
MATION FILED WITH STATE OFFICERS BE MADE
AVAILABLE TO LOCAL SALES TAX ADMINISTRATORS
WHEREAS, many of the cities of the State of California have
imposed sales and use taxes under regulations similar to those
imposed by the State, and
WHEREAS, taxpayers required to file sales and use tax re-
turns with the State of California also file returns on city
sales and use taxes with city officers, and
WHEREAS, the State of California has an efficient and state-
wide system governing sales and use tax returns and the audit and
verification thereof, and
WHEREAS, comparison of State and local sales and use tax
returns would save expensive audit by the cities imposing such
taxes and save the taxpayer the annoyance and expense of a second
audit of his returns, and
WHEREAS, Section No. 7056 of the California Revenue and
Taxation Code authorizes the Governor, by general or special order,
to permit the examination of State sales and use tax returns,
therefore
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Lodi that the
State Board of Equalization be, and said Board is hereby requested
(1)
to recommend to the Governor that State sales and use tax return
information be made available to cities of the State of California
imposing such taxes on a reciprocal basis,
RESOLVED FURTHER, that a copy of this resolution be for-
warded to James H. Quinn, Chairman, Second
of Equalization, and to the Honorable Earl
the State of California.
