RESOLUTION NO. 15$6
ACKNOWLEDGING RECEIPT OF REQUEST OF
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION FOR A "COST OF
LIVING" WAGE ADJUSTMENT AND DETERMIN-
ING THAT AN ADJUSTMENT WILL BE GRANTED
IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASCERTAINED FACTS.
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Lodi, Califor-
nia, has for approximately six (6) weeks been aware of the need
for a study and adjustment of existing salary and wage schedules
in the City employ, because of substantial economic changes
which have occurred since July 1, 1950; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been attempting to deter-
mine equitably the extent to which general salary and wage
increases should be granted; and
WHEREAS, The vacillating policy of the Federal Govern-
ment with respect to the control of prices and wages and the
understandable delay on the part of the Federal Government in
preparing and releasing official data on rising costs to the
consumer have made it impossible to determine an equitable
salary and wage level;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Council
of the City of Lodi, California, des hereby acknowledge the
receipt of a request from the Board of Directors of the Lodi
City Employees' Association for a cost -of -living adjustment
of Thirty-five Dollars (35.00) per month per employee, and
finds that it is presently impossible to assess the merits
of this request; further,
RESOLVED, That the City Manager be, and he is hereby
instructed to continue the survey of salaries and wages now
under way for approximately six (6) weeks and to present at
the earliest possible moment his findings and recommendations;
further,
RESOLVED, That the City Council of the City of Lodi,
California, hereby expresses its intent and determination to
make such adjustments as in its judgment may be necessary to
bring the salaries and wages of its employees into equity with
those in comparable employment at such time as it is possible
to make a reasonable finding of fact.
