CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Van Buskirk Park Master Plan
MEETING DATE: June 5, 1996
SUBMITTED BY: Parks and Recreation Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the Master Plan for
development of Van Buskirk Park as presented.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The park site is one (1) acre in size and
located at the corner of Pleasant Avenue and
Daisy Avenue. Until recently, the park was
essentially a small baseball field. However, because
of the size of the park, the ballfield created many problems with long balls hit over the
fence into adjacent homes. The ball field has been removed and new facilities now
need to be added.
A Public Meeting was held on February 27, 1996 to receive public input and review
the department's plans to revitalize this neighborhood park. The Parks and Recreation
Commission reviewed and approved the master plan as presented by staff at its April
2, 1996 meeting. Improvements to the site include grading, mounding, drainage,
handicap accessible playgrounds, %: basketball court, horseshoe pit, picnic tables, bike
racks, benches, walkways, open play field, game tables, landscaping and irrigation.
If approved by the council, staff will accomplish construction drawings in-house and
proceed with construction in a phased manner as funds become available. First phase
is scheduled for construction in November of 1996 using $70,000 from the
departments 1996/97 capital budget.
FUNDING: Capital Outlay Reserve Funds of $70,000 as proposed in the 1996/97
budget. Future funding to come from CDBG in 1997/98 and from private
sector participation..,
