HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - May 15, 1996 (82)AGENDA TITLE: Plans and Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Legion Park Improvements,
835 South Hutchins Street
MEETING DATE: May 15, 1996
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications for the above
project and authorize advertising for bids.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Community Development Block Grant Funds have been
appropriated to renovate and upgrade the playground area in
Legion Park.
Approximately 1.5 acres of this park will be reconstructed to make the park and playground accessible
to the physically challenged by meeting the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
standards for accessibility. The project improvements include new playgrounds, play equipment,
walkways, benches, picnic tables, storm drainage, landscaping and a new irrigation system.
FUNDING: The money for this project will becoming from the Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) Fund. The 1995/96 CDBG Fund has an allocation of $105,000 for this project and
another $105,000 was approved by Council as part of the 1996/97 CDBG Fund Program.
The bid opening for this project is planned for July 3, 1996 and a recommendation regarding the award
of the project will not be made before the City's 1996/97 CDBG request is approved at the Federal
level. We do not anticipate any problems, but we do not want to award this project without knowing
that the City will receive its full funding from the Federal government. July 1 is the earliest date the
Federal government would be approving the CDBG funding for 1996/97.
