HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 2006-224RESOLUTION NO. 2006-224 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF FOUR MOBILE DATA DIGITAL COMPUTERS FOR NEWLY PURCHASED PATROL CARS UTILIZINGTHE VEHICLE THEFT ACCOUNT WHEREAS, Lodi Municipal Code §3.20.070 authorizes dispensing with bids for purchases of supplies, services, or equipment when it is in the best interest of the City to do so; and WHEREAS, the Lodi Police Department is currently using outdated and unreliable mobile digital computers that are nearly seven years old; and WHEREAS, the Police Department has been unable to accept software upgrades from its vendor, Data 911, because current hardware is slow and does not contain enough storage; and WHEREAS, in addition, the Police Department has been unable to accept new technology offered by the San Joaquin County RAN Board that would allow officers instant suspect identification from their patrol vehicles via mobile fingerprint scanners: and WHEREAS, the use of mobile digital cornpulers assists patrol officers in the identification of stolen vehicles by allowing them instant access to the Department of Justice Stolen Vehicle System. The mobile fingerprint scanners would be attached to the computers and suspects would be identified at the scene, preventing suspects from possibly being released. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council hereby approves the purchase of four mobile digital computers for newly purchased patrol vehicles from Data 911, of Alameda, California, in the amount of $24,936.37 from the Vehicle Theft Account.
