HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 3290RESOLUTION NO. 3290 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LODI URGING OPPOSITION OF ASSEMBLY BILL 1618 INTRODUCED IN THE 1969 SESSION OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE WHEREAS, there has been introduced in the Assembly of the State of California a bill, AB 1618, providing for an excise tax of 14 per cent of gross revenue to be levied on local government-owned electric systems and a 7 per cent excise tax of grass revenue on local government-owned gas systems, and WHEREAS, the City of Lodi is a local government which operates a municipally -owned electric and water system; and WHEREAS, the passage of said bill will result in a liability of some $342, 000 on the City of Lodi during 1969-70 fiscal year: and WHEREAS, said tax represents a special tax levied by the State exclusively on local governments: and WHEREAS, said hill is peculiarly selective in that it levies a tax on electric and gas utilities and not on water utilities or other government-owned enterprises; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lodi does resolve as follows: 1, That AB 1618 would impose an unreasonable tax upon the City of Lodi and other local governments operating electric or gas systems, and 2. That the City of Lodi take proper steps to express opposition to the passage of AB 1618 including the transmission of a copy of this Resolution to the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee, Assembly Ways and Means Committee and to the City's representatives in the State Legislature.
