RETIRZXZNT AGE OF POLICE OFFICERS COVERED BY 1HE STATE
EMPLOYEES $ RETIREMENT S Y S TE&1 .
'rr (FIREtAS, Assembly Bill 128 would amend the provisions of
the State Employees' Retirement System to reduce the ainijt�=
age from 55 to 50 at which local police officers covered by the
system may retire and receive retirement allowances averaging
one-half final compensation; and
WHEREAS, such an amendment would increase the ceatxibutions
frog both employers and police officers under the State Employees'
Retirement System as much as 33 to 4C%; and
WHEREAS, such an increase in contributions would be a
financial burden to both employers and employees; and
WHEREAS, an allowable retirement age of 50 coeld have a
serious adverse effect on the ability of many cities to maintain
an adequate police force;
NOW, MII2EFURE, BE IT RESOLVE -D by the City Couriail of the
City of Lodi that it hereby urges the Assembly Committee on Civil
Service to oppose Assembly Bill 128.
