HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 17, 1996 (62)AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Trees MEETING DATE: April 17, 1996 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications for trees for the Central City Revitalization Project and authorize advertising for bids. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Central City Revitalization Project includes new trees for Downtown and Cherokee Lane. Our consultant, Michael Freedman, recommended the trees be purchased by the City and furnished to the construction contractor. The Downtown trees are London Plane (Platanus acedfolia "Yarwood") and the Cherokee Lane trees are Valley Oak (Querus lobata). Due to the size (36 inches and a 24 -inch box, respectively), and the large quantity, the City can obtain better trees by selecting them at the nursery and providing for their care rather than relying on a contractor to select them on a low -bid, sight -unseen basis. A bid option in which the nursery will care for the trees until they are needed is included in the specifications. The trees will be inspected by the consultant and City staff prior to recommendation of award. We are also specifying that the two types of trees may be purchased from different nurseries. FUNDING: The money for this project will be coming from the Assessment District and General funds. A request for appropriation of funds will be made at contract award.
