HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 2552RESOLUTION NO. 2552 URGII1G THE $OARD OF SUPERVISORS OF Si N JOAQUIN COUNTY TO ESTABLISH A COUNTY- WIDE MCONOMIC DEVELUPNt NT AGENCY WHiaiZAS, it is becoming increasingly apparent that ttxe attraction of new industry and the growth of existing indus- trial plants are important to the economy of San Joaquin County; and WHEREAS, the County of Sa,rz Joaquin, witks its central location, its growing population and its inland port, has, with proper promotion, excellent potential for the location of many beneficial industries; and Wli1:RE4S, tLe competition for industry rias become so keel. recently among cities, counties, and states; and WHEREAS, failure to meet this growingcompetition w i 11 ultimately result in loss to other areas oemployment oppor- tunities, commerce and tax base which are so vitally important to our county; and WHEREAS. the individual chambers of commerce have neither the financial'capacity nor the staff to meet the competition offered by the highly -trained technical staffs in other areas; and 10111.61-iEAS, thforis a aduci iri Sari Joaquin County for a cantrd.l organization to promote new industrial growth and on a county -wide basis; and WHEREAS, the promotion of industrial development ail u uwity-wide basis will result in benefits to a 11 taxpayers within San Joaquin County; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, by ttie City Council of taie City of Ludi that the Board of Supervisors of San Joaquin County is hereby urged to cause the establishment of a county -wide economic development agency with the following aims and purposes: 1_ to prumote new industry beneficial to San .Tours uin County. 4. To gather information in a uniform mariner from all municipalities and San Joaquin County. 3. To establish a central point of disbursement of this pertinent and valuable information. 4. To advertise and promote San Joaquin County industry throughout the state, nation, and the world. -1- - Tu cooperate ite with the San Joaquin County board of Supervisors and administrators, city councils and administrators, chambers of commerce, business, industries, schools, churches, and all interested parties in gathering and disbursing information and promoting industry throughout San Joaquin county. 6. To promote the expansion of existing industries in San Joaquin County and to help in any way possible to solve existing problems. BE IT bUE'THEE RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City vI' Lupi suggests that such ecunomic development agency be govern:ens by a seven -man board appointed to represent separate arid specific areas of the County. BE IT FURTHER I SVLVLU4 Gtiat the City Cuu.lst.:ii of ttat City of Lodi suggests that an adv:. ory council composed uf repre- sentatives of the sixteen chambers of commerce serving San Joaquin County be formed to consult and advise the economic development agency. BE IT FURTHER RESULVEU, Uikxt the City Council of the City of :Lodi suggests that the activities of the agency be financed from such uncommitted funds available to the Board of Supervisors for exploitation purposes, provided, however, that present allocations from these funds to chambers of commerce not be reduced.
