HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 2522RESOLUTION NO. 2522 AMENDING THE JOB SPECIFICATIONS FOR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT CF PUBLIC UTILITIES RESOLVED, that the report of Cooperative Personnel Services, State of California Personnel Board, entitled "City of Lodi, Position Classification Survey, December, 1956," adopted by the City Council of the City of Lodi by passage of Resolution No 1990, be and the same is hereby amended as follows: The job specifications for the classification of Assis- tant Superintendent of Public Utilities am hereby amended in accordance with the specifications dated February 1962 attached hereto and made a part hereof. Councilmen - NONE `City Cl®r City of Lodi February 1962 ASSISTANT SU1?`ERINTEND= CF PUBLIC UTILITIES DEM41TION Under general direction, to plan, organize, direct and inspect the work of City electrical crews; to coordinate the electrical work of the City with other City Departments, other public utilities, and private agencies; and to do related work as required. TYPICAL DUTIES: Assists in directing the activities of the Public Utilities Department; plans electric distribution systems, figuring wire, transformer, pole and anchor sizes and locations for new sub -divisions, new line extensions, and reconstruction of existing lines; issues work orders and coordinates work with the Engineering Department, contractors, end ocher public utilities; takes load surveys, checking power lines for deterioration, determining rebuilding or repair needs, and planning priority schedules; supervises, trains and personally assists in difficult assignments such as in connecting transformer type meters and in testing and repairing equipment; plans and writes specifications Tor electrical work to be done by private contractors; takes necessary initial action to secure rights of way, permits and easements for pole lines, anchors, pipe lines, or other utility equipment within the City; meets the public personally, or by telephone or correspondence, receiving requests and complaints and explaining departmental procedures, require- ments and schedules; contacts representatives of manufacturing concerns, determining types of equipment, and material practical for electrical projects; inspects construction for conformance with State and local codes, laws and regulations. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Either (l)equivalent to graduation from high school and five years of broad and increasingly responsible experience with an electric utility in the design, operation or maintenance of electrical. systems, preferably including at least one year in a super- visory capacity; or (2) graduation from college in electrical engineering and one year of experience with an electric utility in the design, cperation or maintenance of electrical systems. (Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the college education on a year -for - year basis.) Knowledges and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of public electric utility distribution system construction, maintenance and operations; vide knowleage of pertinent laws, codes, regulations and enabling ordinances; wide knowledge of electrical theory and of the planning, construction and maintenance of high voltage lines, street lighting systems, and related equipment; ability to coordinate field and office operations and to plan work schedules and priorities; ability to estimate costs, to maintain necessary records, to assist in budget preparation, and to prepare comprehensive and accurate reports; ability to read and interpret electrical plans and wiring and equipment diagrams; ability to write specifications and to inspect work in progress for conformance; ability to plar:} assign, direct and coordinate the work of office and field crews and to get them to work together effectively; ability to establish end maintain cooperative working relationships.
