MULLEN City Attorney JHEREAS, the City of Lodi is located in Sart Joaquin County, California along the Nokelunme River; and WHEREAS, the City of Lodi does not at present appropriate water from the Hakelumne River for its municipal Water supplY• nor does i t have prospects of securing rights t o waters from said river since all available water has already been allocated; and WHEREAS, the City of Lodi is entirely dependent for its water supply upon the underground water table which has been declining; and WEEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lodi reoognizeis its obligation to the citizens of the community to provide water for future domestic and industrial consumption: and WHEREAS, the Secretary of the Interior of the United States has forwarded to the Congress of the United States reports recommending the early authorization of the Auburn Dam -Folsom South Cenal Project and related dnits; and WHEREAS, the additional water which will be made available by the Auburn Dam -Folsom South Canal Project will provide a 172Bans RESOLUTI0I NO, 2506 2. for the City of Lodi to meet its future needs; and WHEREAS, these facilities are necessary for the full development of the American River as a working part of the Federal Central Valley Project; and 'JJFEREAS, these facilities will provide the additional benefits to persons and property in the Sacramento -San Joaquin Delta area as a flood control facility; end 'i?IEREAS, the economy of the City of Lodi is largely depend- ent upon the maintenance of strong and prosperous agricultural activities in the areas surrounding the City; and JHERA$, the City Council of the City of Lodi recognizes that the successful utilization of much farm land in this area is threatened by a rapidly falling ground water table 'which makes it imperative that a source for additional water be found and developed; HOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lodi endorses the Auburn Dam -Folsom South Canal Project as submitted t o the Congress so that: 1. The City of Lodi vin have an ample supply of water t o meet its domestic and industrial needs, and 2, The agricultural economy of the areas adjacent to the City of Lodi will be maintained. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Lodi urges all appropriate action, particularly by the United States Senate Interior and Insular Affairs Committee and the United States House of Representatives interior and Insular Affairs Committee, RESOLUTION NO. 2508 3. directed toward the early authorization and construction of the Auburn Dam -Folsom South Canal Project.
