HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - March 20, 1996 (57)CIW • • ••• 4�fFOp'� AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for High Pressure Sodium Luminaires MEETING DATE: March 20, 1996 SUBMITTED BY: Electric Utility Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for 175 high pressure sodium luminaires. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Electric Utility Department's Engineering Division has issued work orders to replace 164 mercury vapor lights with the more efficient high pressure sodium luminaires. Some of the locations where replacement lights will be installed are the 100 and 200 blocks of West Lockeford Street, Elm Streeet west of Garden Drive, Beckman Road and Cluff Avenue north of Lockeford Street, Turner Road east of Beckman, Hansen Drive and the 600 and 700 blocks of West Lodi Avenue, and various locations along Ham Lane between Elm Street and Kettleman Lane. The balance of the order (11 luminaires) will be placed into inventory for future use in routine maintenance or emergency replacement. DIXON FLYNN L City Manager SPECIFICATIONS LUMINAIRES GENERAL Luminaires shall be furnished, without lamps or photoelectric control units, in compliance with these specifications. Equipment furnished shall be tested and approved, according to procedures set forth by I.E.S. specifications, and shall meet the minimum standards set forth in the ASTM and EEI-NEMA latest revisions. LUMINAIRES A. Ballasts: Ballasts shall be of the regulated type and shall be integral with the luminaires. Ballasts shall have a minimum power factor of 90%; inrush current shall be less than operating current, shall operate at plus or minimum 101/6 rated voltage. Voltage and wattage shall be as specified. Ballasts shall be of the type recommended for high pressure sodium lamps. B. Light Distribution: Luminaires shall be of Type III light distribution for multiple operation, equipped with photoelectric twist -lock type receptacle. The receptacle shall be adjustable to permit re -orientation of the photoelectric control unit. C. Reflector: Reflector shall be removable and highly specular. D. Refractor: I.E. S. type refractor shall be furnished. Acrylic refractor shall be supplied for 100 -watt and glass refractor shall be supplied for 250 -watt luminaires. Refractor latch shall be vibration proof to prevent accidental opening of the door. Gaskets shall be used to seal the optical assembly at socket entry and between reflector and refractor. E. Slip Fitter: Slip fitter shall be adjustable from 1'/." through 2" pipe without rearranging of mounting parts, and adjustable plus or minus 5 degrees from horizontal. F. Housing: Outer housing shall be cast aluminum and similar in design to American Electric series 113 or General Electric series M2RR.
