RESOLUTION DEFINING VACATIONS, HOLIDAYS, SICK LEAVE AND DUTY
SCHEDULES FOR FIRE FIGHTERS
WHEREAS, Fire Fighters work shifts that are not the normal
eight hour per day, forty hour week: and
WHEREAS, it is cumbersome to interpolate and interpret other
resolutions, rules and policies which are written around a forty hour
week schedule, and
WHEREAS, it is desirable to have separate definitions, as
hereinafter set forth, and regulations regarding sick leave and duty
schedules, applicable only to fire fighters in the City of Lodi,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the following
definitions shall apply to Fire Fighters working shift work:
DUTY SHIFT - A period of two consecutive twelve-
hour periods beginning at 8:00 A.M.
DUTY DAY - A period of twelve consecutive on -duty
hours, beginning at 8:00 A.M. or
8:00 P.M.
WORK PERIOD The work period shall consist of 27
consecutive calendar days, effective
January 1, 1975.
DUTY TOUR - Effective January 1, 1975, the Fire
Fighters' Duty Tour shall be nine days
and shall consist of three on -duty shifts
in the Duty Tour. Duty Tour shall run
consecutively throughout the year.

HOLIDAYS - Are the Duty Days beginning at 8:00 A. M.
on January 1; the third Monday in February:
the last Monday in May: July 4th; the first
Monday in September; September 9th;
November I Ith; the fourth Thursday in
November: December 25th: and the employee's
birthday. If the holiday falls on a normally
scheduled day off, the employee shall be
granted another Duty Day off in lieu of the
holiday, at a time mutually arranged with
his Department Head. If the employee is
required to work on a holiday, he will be
credited with 18 hours of compensatory time
off; and be it further
RESOLVED, that vacation time will be accrued at the following
Years Worked Duty Days Earned/Month Duty Shifts/Yr.

and be it further
RESOLVED, that sick leave shall be earned at the rate of one
duty day per month, with an unlimited accumulation.

a regular meeting held August 7, 1974 by the following
