HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 3734RESOLUTION NO. 3734 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN PROGRAM IN THE UTILITY DEPARTMENT RESOLVED, that the schedule of training, hours and courses for the administration of an Apprentice Electrician Program in the Utilities Department as set forth in the document entitled, "City of Lodi Apprentice Electrician Program in the Utilities Department," a copy of which is annexed hereto and made a part hereof as if set forth in full herein, is hereby approved and adopted by the City Council of the City of Lodi. Bennett City Clerk CITY OF LODI APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN PROGRAM IN THE UTTEITIES DEPARTMENT The following apprenticeship standards shall be attached to and be made a part of the Apprenticeship Program in the Utilities Department: DEFINITIONOF APPRENTICE In these Standards, an apprentice is a person who has entered into an Apprenticeship Agreement with the City of Lodi, Utilities Department, which provides for at least 8,000 hours of training for such person and for his participation in related theoretical instruction for at least . • 576 hours. To insure that there will be no discrimination on the basis of race, creedcolor, national origin, sex. or physical handicaps, selection of apprentices under this program shall be made on the basis of • . ., merit alone in accordance with objective standards which permit review after full and fair opportunity for application, or in any other manner in which selection itself demonstrates that there is equality of °poor- ...•• tunity for entry into this program; and this program shall be operated on a completely nondiscriminatory basis. TERMS OF APPRENTICESHIP. The term of apprenticeship shall be 8,000 hours, excluding the hours of related classroom instruction. Each apprentice shall enroll in and complete 1 . a course of related theoretical instruction as provided by a local school other trade, industrial or correspondence school approved by the Joint • Apprenticeship and Training Committee, for not less than 144 hours a year. WORK EXPERIENCE During his apprenticeship, the apprentice shall receive such instruction 'and experience 4,11'1briAlches of the" trade that are available in the Utilities Department of the City of Lodi for the development of a practical and skilled journeyman versed 'in the theory and practice of the trade. s During the term of their apprenticeship, the Apprentice shall work under the direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician or Technician. During the first year, an Apprentice shall not be assigned to work on any circuit or apparatus energized in excess of 750 volts. • ELECTRICIAN APPRENTICE SHALLRECEIVE APPROXIMATELY: . Preliminary - to acquire use and care of hand tools, material and equipment. 2. - Operation and care of common machines - power saw, pipe threader, drill press, etc. 3.
