HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - No. 3503RESOLUTION NO. 3503 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LODI OPPOSING ENACTMENT OF S.B. 333 WHEREAS, the State Legislature of the State of California is presently considering the enactment of Senate Bill 333 providing for compulsory and binding arbitration of wages, hours, pensions and all other terms and conditions of employment of policemen and firemen; and, WHEREAS, passage of such a bill would permit a nonelected, non- responsive private individual to determine the major portion of a city's budget, and therefore its tax rate. with no recourse by the people; and, WHEREAS, such action represents a drastic change in our elected representative form of government; and, WHEREAS, such action will have a detrimental effect on the existing good faith meet and confer process; and WHEREAS, it is the fervent belief of this City Council that the final decision on i,.:— matters must reside with the elected representatives of the people; and, WHEREAS, similar legislation elsewhere in this country is proving to be unrealistic and unsuccessful: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lodi that S. B. 333 be vigorously opposed. BE IT EURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to Senator Alan Short, Assemblyman Robert Monagan, and to the apprapriate committees of the California State Legislature.
