HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 17, 1999 H-02CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Eastside Improvement Phone Survey Results MEETING DATE: February 17, 1999 PREPARED BY: Community Development Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: None - Information Purposes Only BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Eastside Improvement Committee conducted an informal survey of residents throughout the City of Lodi, asking the question, "What is your number one civic concern which may personally effect you and/or your neighborhood?" From that survey, 268 responses were received, and the results are displayed in the attached document. Dii6n Flynn -- Ity Manager EIC Survey 02/06!99 EASTSIDE IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE SURVEY RESULTS • 142, or 53% of those questioned, cited Crime as their biggest concern. Those concerns are broken down as follows: • General Crime (23%) • Gangs (22.5%) • Drugs (14.7%) • Speeding Vehicles (11.2%) • Excessive Cars in Streets and Yards (9.1 %) • Noise, including barking dogs and loud music from cars and parks (7.7%) • Delinquent Children (4.2%) • Graffiti (2.8%) • Excessive Pets (2.1 %) • Enforce Pedestrian Right -of -Way (2.1%) • 47, or 17.5% of those questioned, cited Community Improvement or Code Enforcement related concerns, such as unkempt properties, unacceptable living conditions, neighbor conflicts, catering trucks, and yard sale violations. • 41, or 15% of those questioned, stated that they had no concerns at all. • 15 cited Social concerns such as limiting growth, care for senior citizens, the cost of living, and no jobs. • 12 cited concerns of existing or needed City Services such as the need for more Police, city tree maintenance, better access to basketball courts and programs with youth group activities. • 8 cited concerns regarding Infrastructure such as the need for more public parking and public bathrooms, street lights, stop lights and street repair. • 3 cited the need for more preservation of older buildings such as Lincoln School and the train depot.
