RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LODI
SUPPOF TIYG EFFORTS TO SECURE ADDITIONAL FUNDS IN
THE 1971- 7Z FEDERAL BUDGET FOR THE EXTEYSION OF
FOLSOM SOUTH CANAL.
WHEREAS, the proposed federal budge: which has been submitted
by the President to the Congress for the 1971-72 fiscal year does not
include funds for wcrk in connection with the extension of the Folsom South
Canal south of Clay; and
WHEREAS, additional funds in the order of 1.8 million dollars are
needed to continue the project, and efforts by Congressman John J. McFall
and others are now under way to provide such funds to provide for the
appropriate planning and land acquisition: and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Lodi and the surrounding area have urgent
need for additional surface water to reduce thp- overdraft and stabilize
the ground water table: and
WHEREAS, the only source of additional surface water available to
the Ladi district is through the Folsom South Canal: and
WHEREAS, the Northern San Joaquin Water Conservation District,
the agency representing the water users in the Lodi area, has an active
application for additional water to be delivered via the Folsom South Canal:
and
WHEREAS, it is in the bes: interests of the citizens of Lodi and
its surrounding area that the construct --,on of the Folsom South Canal be
diligently pursued to effect its tariiest possible completion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Lodi as follows:
That this City Council pledges ::s strong and unqualified support
to the efforts of Congressman John J. McFall and others to secure an
additional 1.8 million dollars in tbf 1,171-72 federal budget for the purpose
of permitting the commencement of ',he preparation of plans and specifications
for construction and land acquisition _,.ied to extend the Folsom South
Canal south of Clay:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the staff of the City of Lodi is
directed to give all reasonable support to a=d efforts to secure said additional
1.8 million dollars;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution shall
be transmitted to the Honorable Alan Cranston, United States Senator,
the Honorable John Tunney, United States Senator, the Honorable Congressman
John J, McFall, Congressman, 15th Congressional District, the Honorable
Robert J. Pafford, Regional Director, Region Two, United States Bureau of
Reclamation, the Board of Supervisors of ti,e County of San Joaquin, and
the Northern San Joaquin Water Conservation District.
