AGENDA TITLE. Accept Improvements Under Contract for 1998 Handicap Ramp Retrofit Project,
Various Locations

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accept the improvements under the "1998 Handicap
Ramp Retrofit Project, Various Locations" contract, direct the
City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion with the County Recorder's
office, and appropriate funds as described below.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The project was awarded to BDS Construction, Inc., of Madera, on
June 3, 1998, in the amount of $129,384.00. The contract has been
completed in substantial conformance with the plans and
specifications approved by the City Council.
The contract completion date was September 22, 1998, and the actual completion date was
September 9, 1998. The final contract price was $151,389.83. The difference between the contract
amount and the final contract price is mainly due to additional curb, gutter, and sidewalk work done to
improve the corners where the new ramps were being installed. There was a delay in accepting this
project because of the labor compliance paperwork required of Block Grant projects. The contractor's
submittals to the City and the City's review of his submittals took longer than expected.
